Empire Magazine: The 25 Best Zombie Movies Of All Time

Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke's feature-length expansion of their 2013 short film Cargo offers up a delicately balanced, distinctly more emotional kind of zombie movie, evoking the likes of The Road, The Last Of Us, and — with its devastatingly beautiful outback cinematography — Wolf Creek. Martin Freeman is heartbreakingly believable here as a father trying to do everything to secure his daughter’s safety in an apocalyptic wasteland after being bitten by a zombie, while Howling and Ramke's ahem biting social commentary and neatly woven in new strands of undead lore lend Cargo impressive heft and credible genre chops. Undertaking a feature-length adaptation of a short film is always a risk, but Cargo, aptly, delivers.
